The application process for the Talent Academy 2024 is now at its peak, with only a few days left for students to submit their projects. As part of this year’s finals, 12 applicants will get the opportunity to explore quantum dots in the laboratories of world-class laser centres of Dolní Břežany. Over the course of one scientific weekend, they will put themselves in the shoes of laser scientists, chemists, engineers and programmers.
The HiLASE Centre and the ELI Beamlines Facility, which organise the Talent Academy every year, are also currently hosting interns who took part in last year’s final and are gaining further scientific experience.
This and much more can be read in the article titled Till the quantum dots dance in Mladá fronta Dnes. Editor Marek Kočovský gave readers an overview of the Talent Academy and explained what areas the gifted high school students will delve into during the November finals.
“This year’s 7th Talent Academy marks the 100th anniversary of quantum theory, which falls on 2025. The theme will be the use of so-called quantum dots, or miniature crystals often made up of just a few hundred atoms. “Scientists have been studying them for half a century and have even been awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for their discovery. Quantum dots have already found a wide range of applications, from the cornerstone of quantum computers to QLED displays, which virtually all of us have encountered,” points out Radka Kozáková from the HiLASE Centre.”
The article also mentions the participant of last year’s final, Amálie Steklá, who is currently interning at the HiLASE Centre’s LIDT team under the guidance of her mentor Martin Mydlář.
