Thales Alenia Space is an innovative collaboration between the French Thales Group and the Italian company Leonardo, which has been focusing on high-tech solutions in the field of space technologies for over 40 years. We were honoured to welcome its delegation to the HiLASE Centre and discuss laser technologies for telecommunications, navigation, Earth observation, and space sustainability.
Tomáš Mocek, Head of the HiLASE Centre, welcomed the visitors and, together with Jan Vanda (Space and Defence Activity Coordinator), introduced the Centre and its expertise in space laser technologies. They presented projects such as ATLAS and LASER-PRO, discussed the collaboration on the LASARSAT satellite, and answered questions about the technologies developed at the Centre.
Accompanied by Jan Vanda, Jan Brajer (Head of the Industrial Laser Applications Department), and Radek Pobořil (Space Systems Engineer), the group then visited the LSP experimental halls and clean laboratories. Here, they learned more about the PERLA laser system and the potential applications of laser peening for improving the fatigue life of materials.
“Today’s discussion with the delegation from Thales Alenia Space was very beneficial. Not only because we had the opportunity to present our technologies, but more importantly, because we gained insights into the future direction of space laser technology from the perspective of leading experts. Moreover, the meeting was not only technically enriching but also personally enjoyable,” commented Jan Brajer.
The delegation was accompanied by representatives of the Ministry of Transport, with whom the HiLASE Centre has been collaborating for a long time in the field of space laser technologies.
Thank you for another inspiring meeting, and we look forward to seeing you again!
