HiLASE Centre and ELI Beamlines are opening pre-registration for the 2025 Talent Academy – a unique program for curious high school students who want to explore the world of physics, chemistry, optics, programming, 3D printing, and other scientific disciplines.

Why Talent Academy?
The Talent Academy gives high school students a head start and a glimpse into the world of science before graduation. Students gain more than just new scientific knowledge – they can experience real scientific work and open the door to a future career in research.
What awaits the Talent Academy finalists?
- Scientific practice: Under the guidance of Czech and international experts, they will solve real scientific tasks – from designing an experiment through working with modern equipment to measuring, analysing, and presenting the results.
- Key skill development: The finalists will learn to work effectively in a team, present their work, manage time pressure and challenging situations.
How does the Talent Academy work?
The Talent Academy consists of two main parts:
- Online round (May-September 2025): participants will complete a cover questionnaire and design a home science experiment. The judges assess critical thinking, ability to link theory to practice and creativity.
- Final (18-20 October 2025): the twelve highest-scoring students will meet in Dolní Břežany. They will enjoy an intensive scientific weekend in the state-of-the-art laboratories of the HiLASE and ELI Beamlines laser centres, team projects, and collaboration with scientists and engineers.
In previous years, the Talen Academy has focused, for example, on quantum dots, which play a key role in nanotechnology, or on applications of lasers in space. And this year’s theme? We will reveal that soon!
The Talent Academy doesn’t end in the finals. Each year, the centres offer selected finalists internships and long-term follow-up cooperation – both in science popularisation and in real research projects.
The Talent Academy is not just a competition – it is a gateway to the world of science and a great stepping stone for all those who want to push the boundaries of human knowledge.
