In preparation of his PhD thesis at the HiLASE Center, Juraj Sládek has published, with his colleagues Yoann Levy, Thibault J.-Y. Derrien, Nadezhda M. Bulgakova and his PhD thesis supervisor from CTU Zdeněk Bryknar, an article titled “Silicon surface patterning by regular stripes of laser-induced periodic surface structures” in Applied Surface Science (Elsevier, IF 7.4). The publication reports on a specific regime of large-area structuring of silicon by Laser-Induced Periodic Surface Structures (LIPSS). A range of parameters was identified where the LIPSS-covered areas organize into regular stripes unconventionally located in between the subsequent Gaussian pulses upon laser scanning. Moreover, mutual phase of the LIPSS periods in the subsequent stripes is constant. Supported by numerical simulations, the mechanisms of formation of the stripes, based on laser-induced amorphization of silicon, are proposed.
The reported findings may find applications in fabrication of functional surfaces, optical devices, sensors and in other disciplines.
