Surface thermomechanical processing of components for Molten Salt Reactor with liquid fluoride fuel THÉTA 2

The HiLASE Centre is one of the project’s investigators focused on developing advanced technology for the processing of functional surfaces of GEN IV reactor components with liquid fuel based on molten fluoride salts.

theta2
The objectives of this project are:

  • Development of a progressive technology for treating functional surfaces of GEN IV liquid fuel reactor components based on molten fluoride salts (MSR) to suppress the formation of corrosion cracks in structural materials by Te-induced intergranular cracking.
  • Research and development of surface thermomechanical treatment of components combining controlled deformation of material surface layers caused by mechanical shock wave (laser shock peening) and surface heat treatment.
  • Determination of the extent and rate of embrittlement of nickel alloys exposed in FLiBe under graded Te concentrations in the temperature interval 650-750 °C in the initial and surface-modified states. Development and testing of a robotic arm for laser beam transfer for a mobile device.
