In preparation of his PhD thesis at the HiLASE Center, Kryštof Hlinomaz has published, with his colleagues Yoann Levy, Thibault J.-Y. Derrien and Nadezhda M. Bulgakova, an article on “Modeling thermal response of Mo thin films upon single femtosecond laser irradiation: dynamics of film melting and substrate softening” in the International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer (Elsevier, IF 5.5).
The publication reports the results of efficient numerical modeling of the damage threshold of Mo films deposited on different kinds of substrates upon irradiation by femtosecond laser pulses. Applications of the model to various configurations (substrate type and film thickness) demonstrate the importance of the choice of the substrate for the thin film damage and the dependance of modification dynamics on the film thickness.
The work is useful for improving the precision of laser processing of thin metallic films using ultrashort laser pulses. The full text can be found here.
