Martin Smrz, head of the Advanced Laser Development department at the HiLASE Centre, will be attending the thirteenth instalment of the Ultrafast Optics (UFO XIII) conference taking place from the 26th to the 31st of March in San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina.
The HiLASE Centre is one of the Silver sponsors of the conference and you can find us at a tabletop booth, where we will be happy to talk to you about our products and services, as well as the topics discussed at the conference. Martin Smrz will also give a talk at the conference, on the topic of Breakthroughs in fast femtosecond multibeam micromachining within the Tuesday Industry & Facility session starting at 6 pm UTC (GMT -3).
Abstract:
Femtosecond micromachining allows for the creation of fine structures on material surfaces and reduces the influence of heat loads. Especially adoption of high power Yb-based lasers significantly increased production speed and enabled large size surface functionalization. However, further increase in processing speed via higher repetition rate or pulse energy is limited by available scanners and plasma creation. A new approach via splitting high quality beams of kW lasers into thousands of sub-beams brings a new dimension into the manufacturing of periodic structures, effectively uses laser potential, and reduces the price of large size ultrashort pulse micromachining. We present the adoption of thin-disk Yb: YAG lasers for multibeam micromachining.
UFO XIII is an international conference in the area of science and technology, focused on the generation, manipulation and measurement of ultrafast pulses. It is organised by scientists from the field with the support of partners from industry. The programme, spanning from Sunday to Friday, includes a wide variety of interesting talks, as well as accompanying social events.
