LSO Meetup 2024 focused on the safety of industrial lasers and laser pointers

On Wednesday the 24th of October, HiLASE Centre welcomed experts in lasers and their safety within the annual LSO Meetup. A series of talks covered the safety aspects of laser applications, from laser pointers in the milliwatt range to kilowatt systems.

The morning section was focused on the safety of lasers in open space, including the prevention of laser attacks on aircrafts, or safety aspects of automotive LiDAR. Other talks covered laser welding and cleaning safety. Nanoparticles and their impact on human health, protective work equipment and the latest changes in regulations were also discussed. There was also plentiful space for networking and making new connections, the participants held engaging discussions about the topics during coffee breaks and lunch.

HiLASE Centre speakers Helena Vohníková (Laser Safety Officer) and Jan Vanda (Team Leader of Laser Induced Damage Threshold) were joined by representatives of academic and industrial institutions. This included Znalecký ústav bezpečnosti a ochrany zdravíUniversity of Defence, Valeo, IPG PhotonicsAS Engineering, Institute of Experimental Medicine of the CAS, and MIT.

Thank you to the event partners and all participants. We look forward to seeing you next year at one of our laser safety courses, or the next meetup!
