We are excited to share the latest research of the HiLASE Centre Laser Shock Peening (LSP) team published in the journal Virtual and Physical Prototyping. The paper, titled “Effects of sacrificial coating material in laser shock peening of L-PBF printed AlSi10Mg” deals with the topics of additive manufacturing and surface engineering.
The research team included HiLASIANS Ondřej Stránský (LSP Ph.D. student), Sunil Pathak (LSP scientist), Jan Šmaus (LSP technologist), Jan Kaufman (team leader of LSP), Marek Böhm (graduate student: engineering support), Jan Brajer (head of Industrial Laser Applications), and Tomáš Mocek (head of HiLASE Centre), alongside Libor Beránek, František Holešovský (both of Czech Technical University in Prague) and Jaromír Kopeček (Institute of Physics, Czech Academy of Sciences).
They investigated the impact of different materials, including black paint, thermoplastic elastomers, black vinyl tape and uncoated surfaces, in the LSP processing of laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) printed thin AlSi10Mg tubes. The findings suggest that sacrificial coatings play an important role in processing parts in laser shock peening and advance our understanding of LSP treatment of AM printed parts.
